So I am 27... my wife has had brain cancer for more than two years now. Neither of our lives have been easy. This summer, we just passed our five year mark and we have been together nearly all of our young adult life.

My story really begins when I came to Christ - almost 10 years ago now. I was a mess... at 16, I had gone my own way and was doing my own thing. My parents were people of faith, but I did not understand why they were so devouted to a faith that made them door mats for everyone else... I was picked on non-stop as a boy and going in to my middle school years, I was tired of it. I joined the wrestling team and learned how to defend myself.

It wasn’t long before I became the aggressor and I became a terrible bully. My parents pulled me out of public school and I was institutionalized in a mental hospital for a short time. I ended up in a Christian school where I was completely put off by a bunch of kids who had never lived in the real world.

At 16, I was ordered to see a psychologist and he gave me all kinds of great advice like, "how to emmancipate your parents." My plan was to drop out of school and divorce my folks. I got through the first part of my plan and dropped out... however, before I could renounce my family, God intervened.
